JICA volunteers share experiences

Japan International Corporation Agency or JICA’s volunteer program is one of Japan’s Technical schemes operated as part of its official development assistance.

Japanese volunteers serving in Papua New Guinea shared their experiences on Tuesday in Port Moresby.

The program dispatches eager Japanese citizens use their skills, experiences; expertise and knowledge to assist developing countries.

The 25 Japanese volunteers in PNG were dispatched in Southern and New Guinea Islands Regions mostly serving in the areas of health and education.

In health, the volunteers worked towards providing better health care and increased access to information through development of local health care professionals specialized in physical therapy, midwifery, and public health nursing.

Education specialists who were dispatched to different secondary schools in Manus, West New Britain and East New Britain Provinces ran youth activities, environmental, science and physical education.

They also facilitated teacher training programs to introduce alternative and new teaching methods.

These volunteers have been working at the grassroots level with an emphasis on fostering self-reliance for sustainable change.
