Help for our disadvantaged population

The poor, vulnerable and marginalised members of Port Moresby’s urban settlement communities will receive the support they need to become good, decent, valued and productive citizens of PNG.

This was made possible through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Foundation for Women & Children at Risk (WeCARe!) and Digicel PNG Foundation.

The MOA confirms Digicel PNG Foundation’s funding of K630,000 to support the work of WeCARe for over 3 years.

“We are so grateful and appreciative to Digicel PNG Foundation for renewing our MOA. This support enables WeCARe to help provide much needed services to the disadvantaged population,” said Josephine Dormenge, WeCARe Program Manager.

“Altogether, Digicel and Digicel PNG Foundation’s total investment in WeCARe amounts to close to K2 million over the past 10 years.

“Through this investment, we’re able to provide basic provisions for vulnerable young children and people living with a disability, run Early Learning Centres and Care Groups for children in settlements, seeking medical attention and the provision of basic necessities such as diapers and food and issue assistive devices such as crutches, walkers or wheelchairs where appropriate, for people living with disabilities.

“We want to sincerely thank Digicel for being a good corporate citizen and putting money where it is most needed.”

WeCARe! Founder & Patron, Fr John Glynn, presented a certificate of appreciation to Digicel PNG Foundation CEO, Beatrice Mahuru, as a show of WeCARe’s sincere gratitude for the invaluable support of Digicel PNG Foundation and Digicel over the years.
