GG acknowledges support

The Governor General has expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from organizations and the international community for victims of the earthquake that struck parts of highlands and southern regions last month.

Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae, acknowledged the governments and people of Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, France and USA, among others, for their contribution through funding, technical support and humanitarian aid.

Grand Chief Sir Bob expressed his gratitude to international organizations on the ground and working closely with the people affected by the earthquake as well as corporate organizations, the United Nations, non-government organizations, churches, and international health volunteers including doctors and those in the emergency service.

The Governor General also acknowledged security personnel and members of the PNG Defence Force working alongside their Australian counterpart in transporting relief supplies to the affected communities.

“We are indeed grateful for the kindness and support shown by our friends from the international community who have come forward and provided funding and humanitarian aid to our people and communities affected by the earthquake disaster.

“We are thankful and appreciate NGOs, corporate organizations and those in the emergency service who are working tirelessly to provide medical aid, relief assistance and to bring about normalcy in the provinces affected.  

“Working together during times of disaster is indicative of the close relationship we have with our international friends and their readiness to help a friend in need.

“You have our heartfelt thanks and gratitude and may god bless and keep you all,” Grand Chief Sir Bob said.
