Escapee caught

One of three prisoners serving time at the Lorengau Correctional Institute who escaped custody this week was been apprehended today in Manus.

Two remain on the run and Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu has issued a warning about harboring them as they are dangerous.

The three prisoners, 23 year old, Junior Mark of Dingou, Masih village, Manus, 37 year old Mark Kereng of Pundru, Kari, and 38 year old Bill Kanat of Lundret village escaped from the Correctional service custody on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Kereng and Kanat are serving 17 and 21 years respectively for murder charges.

Junior Mark, who is serving three months for drug possession was recaptured today and charged by police for escaping lawful custody.

Mark Kereng who is serving 21 years in jail, escaped after he swung a grass knife at the duty guard.

PPC Yapu is appealing to the General Public and the Community to be on alert and look out for the prisoners as they to the community.

LLG Presidents, Ward Councilors and other community leaders are being asked to assist and bring those two escapees to CS or Police.

 Any one harboring them will be charged by Police for Harboring.
