China Medical Team visit Kavieng

Four members of the China medical team were given a warm New Ireland welcome upon their arrival in Kavieng this week for a goodwill visit.

The four are part of a larger China medical team of 10 based at the Port Moresby General Hospital since July this year.

The contingent to Kavieng consisted of Deputy Captain of the China Medical Team Dr Jason Liu who is also a pediatrician, Dr Hongbo Liu a traditional Chinese medical practitioner and physiotherapist, Dr Haibo MU a gynecologist/obstetrician who is also an expert in minimally invasive surgery, and assistant Nurse Chang Yang.

The third Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in PNG, Jiang Yewei accompanied the team.

The mission of the delegation was to strengthen Chinese medical relations with the Kavieng General Hospital and to nurture cordial relations with the NIPG and its people.

The team donated eight boxes of medical supplies to the Kavieng Hospital containing surgical masks, N95 masks, Goggles, medical rubber gloves, medical caps and medical boot covers.

The team toured their respective wards of practice to get an idea of how the Kavieng Hospital addresses patient needs. After the hospital visit, the team set up a free medical clinic at the Malagan Hotel to treat the public depending on their health issues.

The team also visit the Beautiful scenery of Bilas Peles, venturing out as far as Djaul Island for whale watching and fishing.

The Chinese Government over the years has been facilitating medical services to Papua New Guinea through its health partnership programs, this team being the 12th.
