Buka’s tourism hub vision gets boosted

Buka Town can now effectively carry out its goal of becoming a tourism hub.

The Buka town authority’s vision has been boosted with three new rubbish trucks (compactors).

Speaking to Loop PNG, Buka Town Manager Edward Kenai said Buka town workers can now collect rubbish in style and keep Buka town clean.

“Our main aim to turn Buka town into a tourism hub still stands, we have now boosted our fleet and our operational capability will be up to standard,” Kenai said.

Speaking at the launching last Thursday, Kenai said the purchase of these trucks from China was made possible through thorough research.

“These vehicles are the same brand that is now being used by coalition forces in Iraq, in which China was contracted, so these vehicles are amongst the top brands in the world.

“Very soon, two engineers from the factory will be coming over to Buka to train our workers and mechanics on how to use the trucks more effectively and also how to fix them.”

Also present at the event were town managers from Rabaul, Kokopo, Kavieng and Kimbe.

This initiative has prompted the rest of the New Guinea Islands to contract and task Buka Town Council to order the same trucks for them.

“I would like to thank the town mayors and managers of Kokopo, Rabaul, we’re now ordering ten for the whole of New Guinea Islands,” Kenai said.
