Femili PNG will open Lae office

Femili PNG will open a new office in Lae tomorrow (June 5).

Newcrest made a generous donation of K200,000 to Femili PNG in March 2017 which was used to renovate the office space.

Newcrest executive general manager of Public Affairs and Social Performance, Ian Kemish, said: ‘’Newcrest is delighted to make a practical contribution to Femili PNG’s critical Lae service in support of the victims of family violence and abuse.

“Through our contribution, we acknowledge both the dedication of Femili’s volunteers, and the significant impact that abuse – predominantly of women and children – has on PNG’s communities and workplaces, a problem we have committed to help combat through our program Trupla Man Trupla Meri initiated by our workforce at Lihir mining operations.’’

Femili PNG is a local NGO based in Lae that runs a Case Management Centre (CMC) to assist survivors of family and sexual violence access the services they need.

The organisation’s target population are women, men or children who are survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual violence and/or child abuse. It is supported by Australian Aid and other partners.

The renovated office space now gives survivors the access to safe and confidential client consultation.

The location of the office however, is not disclosed for security reasons. The office building is the property of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, leased to Femili PNG at a discounted rate.

“Femili PNG Management and staff appreciate the support and partnership with Newcrest and the Lutheran Church,” said the NGO.
