Wabag MP focuses on SME, education

Wabag MP Dr Lino Tom says his priority areas for development are Small and Medium Enterprises in the agriculture sector and education.

Dr Tom said his policies are simple and focus is on key development aspects.

Promoting SMEs, mainly in agriculture, is to cater for the number of constituents who are not able to continue formal education.

He revealed that the District Development Authority has made a policy focused on this aspect and that budgetary allocation will be made.

“Those people who can’t make it to schools and institutions, they should engage themselves in SME, especially agriculture, because I see agriculture as the fairest SME that is available to us today,” Dr Tom stated.

“Everyone in Papua New Guinea owns land. And if we can give them the opportunity to develop their land and if we can find markets where they can sell their produce, I think we will assist a lot of people back home.

“A lot of issues that we face as a country are just because we are not empowering our people.

“Our people need to be empowered economically so they can look after themselves, they can look after their health, look after their education and so forth.”

The Wabag MP also said education was a major issue in the country and improving the quality of human resource in the country was needed.

Coming from a province where education has been its cornerstone, the MP said education will be another major focus.

The MP said other focus areas that remain include health and law and order.
