Tarutia confident institute work to continue

The PNG Institute of Directors outgoing President, Ian Tarutia, is confident that work on creating a legislative framework to enhance the institute in promoting good governance will be progressed under its new President.

Tarutia said this following the election of Anthony Yauieb as President.

The outgoing President hands over the reins to Yauieb after a four year tenure.

Two key initiatives highlighted under Tarutia’s Presidency include a strategic partnership with BPNG and UPNG to rollout a Graduate Diploma in Governance and headwork into director’s legislation as a key lever to lift the stature of, and institutionalize PNGID’s work on improving governance standards of private and public sector boards.

“UPNG’s Graduate Diploma in Corporate Governance is part of an overall strategic intent to create a pipeline to improve the skillsets and increase the talent pool of professional directors in Papua New Guinea.  In supporting the director pipeline project, NASFUND has over the last 8 years been running a young trainee director program. I encourage other organizations, as part of their corporate responsibility to also take the lead in training future directors,” Tarutia said.

“I am also pleased to say the Institute has progressed work on creating a legislative framework to enhance the work of PNGID in promoting good governance. I leave with confidence knowing the credentials and capability of the newly elected Board under the presidency of Anthony Yauieb will take this work further to fruition.”

Yauieb, thanked Tarutia for his work in leading the institute and lifting its profile to better position the institute.

He also applauded and thanked outgoing directors, Paul Harris (Vice President), Sundar Srinivasan (Treasurer) and David Brown (Director) for their contribution to the work of the institute for the last 3 years.

Other PNGID Directors elected apart from Anthony Yauieb (President), were Charlie Gilichibi (Vice President), Des Yaninen (Treasurer), Vani Nades (new), Sharon Kupp (re-elected), Taonao Vai (new) and Bernard Eliuda (new).
