Puma staff to undergo training

More than 40 process operators at Puma Energy’s Napanapa Refinary outside Port Moresby will undergo ‘process technician’ training.

This follows an agreement signed between the company and the Government.

Under the agreement 43, employees will undergo a 4 year training program overseen by the National Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Board (NATTB).

Puma Energy Country Manager, Jim Collings, told the employees that the training will be tough as it will determine those who will continue with the company.

“So we will only be looking to keep the best of the best through. Hopefully we have 43 of the best,” he said.

“This is a commitment from the company to you, this is a commitment from NATTB to you and a commitment from yourself to the process.”

Among the 43 employees is the only female, Marie Malaga, from Rigo in the Central Province.

Marie is one of the few multi-skilled personnel within the company and says she is happy to undergo the training to heighten her career within the company and the industry.

“I see this as a personal challenge for me and I will do my best alongside my colleagues.

NATTB Assistant Director, Arthur Geno, said PUMA is the second company to have its employees undergo the ‘process technician’ training.

He congratulated the employees and urged them to work hard.
