Public servant asks for Govt to divert funds

The Government has been asked to reconsider parking K200 million for the public servants housing scheme policy with the Bank South Pacific.

A senior public servant from Western Highlands Province queried, during a recent Nambawan Super Ltd (NSL) annual forum in Mt Hagen, whether the fund could be diverted to NSL instead.

James Aruru Wakapu, the executive manager of commerce, tourism and culture, said due to several requirements of BSP, only a few public servants are benefiting from the scheme.

“The problem is when I go to the bank, the processes are very stringent so I cannot access loan for housing,” said Wakapu.

“And when I go to the superfund, my savings are a little bit low so I cannot afford it.

“Can you consult with the government and send the K200 million to NSL?”

In response, NSL’s facilitating team says there is a possibility however, it is up to the National Government.

Meantime, over 800 participants attended the one day forum.

Highlands regional manager, Allen Titip, revealed said the purpose of the forum was to promote the products of the organisation and update members on the organisation’s products and benefits.

The event was for NSL members of Western Highlands and Jiwaka provinces.

Titip stated that similar forums for Enga and Southern Highlands  will be held in their respective provinces before the end of the year.
