OSL confirms gas presence at P’nyang South 2

Oil Search Ltd has confirmed the presence of gas at the P’nyang South 2 / P’nyang South 2 ST1 Appraisal Well.

In its exploration and appraisal drilling update, published on the Port Moresby Stock Exchange, Oil Search says this confirms its pre-drill prognosis carried out last year.

The well is located in Western Province at Petroleum Retention License (PRL) 3/Application Petroleum Development License (APDL) 13.

Oil Search says the objective of P’nyang South 2 is to migrate proven and probable (2C) gas resource volumes to the proven (1C) category as well as appraise 2C resource upside potential identified in the south-eastern part of the field.

The company said during December the well was cored and then drilled through the objective Toro, Digimu and Emuk formations.

Pressure data acquired interpret the Toro and Digimu formation sands to be hydrocarbon (gas) saturated with good reservoir quality.

This is in line with Oil Search’s pre-drill prognosis and has confirmed the presence of gas in this part of the field.

Oil Search says data acquisition and evaluation over the target sands continued at the end of December.

The company will be gathering additional structural information.
