Troops showcase maritime capabilities

The PNGDF and Australian Navy held a showcase this morning outlining training scenarios being carried as part of their annual Exercise Paradise training.

This year, the training has been modified to take into account the main leader’s week this November for APEC 2018.

Involving six vessels and various small crafts, this morning’s showcase was to highlight maritime capabilities harnessed during Exercise Paradise.

Chief of Force Preparations, Colonel Siale Diro says that the operations were in line with the supporting security role that the defense will play alongside the police for APEC.

On hand to observe the display were senior representatives from the Defense Corporation Program, along with the deputy defense Secretary, Simon Tunapai, who thanked the troops for the display while also commending the joint effort by the ADF through the Australian Navy.

Meantime this Exercise is also a lead up to force preparations that Colonel Diro says will culminate in the final security rehearsals in October.

The security operations Diro says will be to monitor and deliver on the maritime restricted zones as well as provide water surveillance support to the RPNGC and its supporting elements.

Meanwhile, to date the Exercise Paradise is an annual naval training facilitated for by the ADF under their Defense Corporation Program aimed to help boost capabilities for the PNGDF Naval element.
