Ex-Soldier Surrenders Gun To Police

East Sepik Provincial Police Commander Albert Beli said the retired PNGDF Corporal had been keeping the gun in his house at Kreer. He felt that he has no use of keeping it so surrendered it to the police.
 
PPC Beli said retired Corporal Dabul Kailom said the weapon was given to him by some youths because it was damaged. He said Kailom took the weapon to fix it since 2005 and kept it since then.

Wewak Policeman Attacked

According to provincial Police commander Albert Beli, the thugs who were armed with homemade guns and other offensive weapons tried to shoot at him with but fortunately the gun did not discharge any bullet.

PPC Beli said the police officer was alone with his family and tried to fight his way out but the criminals were armed.

 

“From what I heard the armed youths who were drinking at the back of the Evangelical Brotherhood Church (EBC) burnt down two houses at the location and then went to the policeman`s house during the night and attacked him.

Wewak police warn against false tsunami warnings

This follows an incident early this morning, where Wewak residence were forced to get out of their beds between 4 and 5am after receiving warnings of a Tsunami.

A local had posted online seeking advice on whether there was a known warning from relevant authorities that they were not aware of, which could have triggered this panic in Wewak town.

However East Sepik police Commander, Robert Gesa said that this was an unnecessary move that should have been avoided.

​Wewak cops guilty of arson, rape

The Wewak National Court found Chief Inspector Sakawar Kasieng, of Sibilanga Village, Sandaun Province, guilty on Wednesday for arson, while four of his officers were convicted for raping a 17-year-old girl at her family home on 7 December 2013.

Robin Weibi of Tomonoum Village, Nuku, Sandaun Province, Timon Kangapu of Hirae Village, Kopiago, Southern Highlands Province, Stanley Moui Jombu of Passam, East Sepik Province, and Nigel Tianguma Harvey of Mikarew area, Bogia, Madang Province, were all found guilty for rape.
