Government in talks to secure K320m for Wewak Hospital

Treasury Minister Patrick Pruaitch told Parliament this afternoon when responding to a Supplementary Question from East Sepik Governor Sir Michael Somare.

The retiring politician asked if the National Government will allocate funds to support the rotting infrastructures which were built in 1962 by the colonial government.

Pruaitch said there were other commitments but the East Sepik Provincial Government had failed to do follow up to secure funding.

He gave an example of the offer by the Japanese Government, which the provincial government failed on its part.

East Sepik Students Association student leader, Kennedy Fisause said, the total cost of the mattresses was K3,520, and bought from money raised from the East Sepik Provincial Day held by the students in Lae, in 2016.

He said after consultation with the hospital management, they were advised to purchase mattress for  use by patients.

Fisause said despite the donation been small in size, it is hoped the mattress will provide comfort to the sick and injured when getting treatment at the hospital.

Wewak hospital gets K10m funding

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill announced this at Yangoru Station this afternoon.

O’Neill was invited to East Sepik by Yangoru Saussia MP and Trade Minister Richard Maru to launch the Sepik chicken, grain and cocoa projects.

O'Neill said funds have already been sent to the hospital account.

He also challenge the hospital board and management to use the money for its intended purpose because an early funding of K10 million was misappropriated and the case is before the courts.
