Iran to US: Nuke deal could result in joint cooperation

Mohammad Javad Zarif suggested a deal acceptable to his country will open the door to cooperation on fighting the upsurge of Middle East extremism threatening both nations' interests.

Zarif did not mention the United States by name in his video message.

But with the Iran six-power talks having devolved essentially into bilateral U.S.-Iran negotiations over the past year, his comments were clearly directed at the Americans, who have been the primary drivers of the crippling economic sanctions imposed on his country over its nuclear program.

Washington woman killed by measles was vaccinated - health official

The woman's death was the first from measles in the U.S. in 12 years and the first in the state in 25 years.

The case wasn't related to a recent outbreak that started at Disneyland and triggered a national debate about vaccinations, according to the Washington State Department of Health. Officials said it was a different strain.

The Washington woman lacked some of the measles' common symptoms, such as a rash, so the infection wasn't discovered until an autopsy, department spokesman Donn Moyer said Thursday.

Washington woman's measles death is first in US since 2003

The woman lacked some of the measles' common symptoms, such as a rash, so the infection was not discovered until an autopsy, Washington State Department of Health spokesman Donn Moyer said.

This is the 11th case of measles in Washington — and the sixth in Clallam County — this year, Moyer said.

Measles is highly contagious and spreads when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. However, dying from it is extremely rare, Moyer said.

Suspect in DC mansion slayings fires his defense attorneys

Daron Wint made the decision at the beginning of a scheduled preliminary hearing on Thursday afternoon, which was then postponed. He will once again be represented by public defenders.

Attorney Sean Hanover says he and Wint had a "difference of opinion" that led Wint to dismiss him and a colleague who was handling immigration matters. He added that Wint is "heartbroken" over the deaths of the Savopoulos family. Hanover says he believes there are people who were involved in the slayings who are at large.

Ammonia leaks from warehouse burning in Washington wildfire

Chelan County Emergency management issued the order late Monday morning for an area within half a mile to the south of the Blue Bird fruit warehouse in Wenatchee. But Washington State Patrol Trooper Darren Wright said it was unclear how many people remained in the area because they had already been advised to evacuate.

The wildfire was fueled by high temperatures and strong winds as it roared into town Sunday afternoon. The blaze ignited in brush just outside Wenatchee and quickly burned out of control, destroying two dozen structures.
