Tigers tear down Hagen Eagles

In round 3 of the 2023 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup in Lae, Tigers cemented their reputation, scoring their first try two minutes into the match through second rower, Nicky Aure.

A missed conversion left the points at 4-0 until a penalty kick by the Eagles two minutes later closed the gap by two points.

Sensing a weakness in the away team, the Lae outfit pummelled their defense until their efforts paid off with five-eighth, Mark Tony, breaking through six minutes into the match.

Halfback Simon Arana successfully converted the try for a scoreline of 10-2.

Vipers thump Eagles

A very challenging speech by NCD Governor and Patron of the Port Moresby Vipers Powes Parkop at the club’s season launch on Wednesday night seemed to have done the trick. Viper met old arch rival club Mt.Hagen Eagles in round 1 of the renamed Digicel ExxonMobil Cup on Sunday, and beat them.

After playing second fiddle to old and new franchise clubs over the past decade, the Vipers seemed to have recruited big on the offseason which was evident against the Eagles on Sunday.

Western Highlanders in the city urged to support Late Pidik’s family

The incident happened during the Digicel Cup elimination match in Port Moresby between the Rabaul Agmark Gurias and Wamp Nga Mt Hagen Eagles.

“Making peace is always important in a modern time like this where law must be followed and traditions must be maintained,” says the Chairman of the Western Highlands Development Forum Inc, Samson Komati, when urging all Western Highlanders in Port Moresby to come forward in kind and cash and help the Late Pidik’s family.

Eagles soar to win over Mioks in week 1 of finals

The venue was packed to capacity with the main game of the day played in sunny and windy conditions.

The Eagles looked the more dangerous side in the opening minutes as they dominated possession.

But it was the Mioks who got the first points from a penalty successfully converted by -eighth Philemon Taim.

In their next visit to the Eagles half, a dangerous tackle on a Mioks player presented the chance for them to extend their lead.

Taim attempted to convert from 25 metres out but his kick just sailed wide.

Eagles soar above Vipers

The Eagles dominated most of the first half to lead 16-0.

But the Vipers fought their way back into the match with a double to halfback Sebulong Ragi in the last 10 minutes, to leave the halftime score at 16-10 in favour of the Eagles.

The Vipers hit early in the second half with a four pointer to narrow the score to 16-14, thanks to Richard Kambo, who was too big and too strong to hold down.
