Schnaubelt Re-elected

Schnaubelt was officially declared after the 16th exclusion, having polled 16, 454 votes.

His declaration was done at the Stemper hall in Namatanai town at 8pm yesterday.

Finishing second was People’s Progress Party candidate Byron Chan with 12,393 votes and second runner-up, James Seat finished with 3,936 votes.

Schnaubelt was first elected into Parliament in the 2017 National General Election.

New Ireland has declared it’s  MPs for each district and the provincial seat.

PNGFA Progresses Carbon Trading

This includes Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA), Climate Change Development Authority (CCDA) and the private sector in the advancement of carbon trading and issuance of associated permitting.

MP Focuses On Downstream Processing

Given the majority of land and forest, the Minister wants to see more awareness to landowners, so they can participate meaningfully to maximise their benefits. 
 
“Any partnership going forward must include our people. Most times decisions in the development of the forest sector do not involve the landowners,” Minister Schnaubelt said. 
 

Leaders ordered to compensate MP

The court has given them until October 30, to pay up through a traditional ceremony. 

Chairman and magistrate of area one in Matalai Local Level Government Apiroi Joseph, and Tekedan Ward 4 magistrate Lusana Misialir Ludwick presided over the case in Nokon Village. Both made the ruling based on the village court’s decisions as well as traditional custom. 

Magistrate Joseph explained that the village court decision was for one of the defendants to compensate K400, the other K200, and a shell money each and a pig worth K600. 

BSP Namatanai Opened

Speaking during the opening of the branch in Namatanai recently, member for Namatanai, Walter Schnaubelt said the people of Namatanai could now expect to experience big changes in economic empowerment as more developments begin to unfold through this.

The opening of the banking facility coincides with the establishment of the Walter’s Farming Association Buying Point, which has enabled farmers to have cash to spend and meet their daily needs.

“BSP, we are happy for you making a decision to open the branch in Namantanai,” said Schnaubelt.

NTI Gets Vehicles

The vehicles worth over K1 million were delivered as another “Belhat Development Project” by Namatanai MP Walter Schnaubelt through the District Development Authority (DDA).

 “I promised the women at West coast Sentral Ward 15 to 18 that they would receive a mama market vehicle and it was delivered,” said Mr Schnaubelt.

“From Kokola to Messi, now the women in those areas will have the opportunity to bring their fresh produce to the market,” he said.

Capesena School Opens New Classrooms

Member for Namatanai Walter Schnaubelt, said this when he visited the school to officiate at the opening three classrooms and an administration building.

The new buildings were constructed at a cost of about K95,000.

Schnaubelt praised how organized and disciplined the school was, and commended them on the parade they put on for the visiting dignitaries.

MPs reinstated in NIP assembly

The New Ireland Assembly voted out its open members during its meeting on Wednesday the 17th of March, citing numerous absences from assembly meetings.

It was claimed, both members were absent on Wednesday 9th September 2020, Wednesday 16th September 2020, Wednesday 23rd December 2020 and Wednesday 17th March 2021.

Logging firms told to pay up

Minister Schnaubelt sounded the warning following failure by most companies and operations to meet their obligations under various agreements.

He said these companies are fully aware of the legal ramifications associated with non-compliance of their legal obligations as stipulated under the agreements and the underlying laws of the country governing the forestry sector.

“Many of these companies are not new to the fact that they have to abide by the legal requirements of the operating and export sales agreements,” Schnaubelt explained.

MPs terminated from provincial assembly

The provincial assembly voted unanimously in favour of the motion.

The motion was moved as a result of the numerous absences of the two MPs for assembly meetings. Both members were absent from assembly meetings on Wednesday 9th September 2020, Wednesday 16th September 2020, Wednesday 23rd December 2020 and Wednesday 17th March 2021.

The motion was put to vote with no opposition and was passed with 17 votes.
