Students given platform to showcase talent

The UPNG Runway was a platform for university students who aspire in the fashion industry to showcase their passion and skills in art and design.

Thirty models and seven designers were selected to showcase their designs to the student body and in front of the PNGFNDW Judges. The three top designers; Susan Maiasa, Edith Tubal, and Zamma Eliakim along with the top ten models will take part in the main PNGFNDW Runway “Fashion for Peace” in August.

UOG prepares for VC Cup showdown

Defending champions, the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) Pythons, will be defending their title this year, after winning the cup in a fiery grand final match against the University of Technology (Unitech) Spartans in Port Moresby, in 2021.

UPNG has assembled three teams; two from the main campus including defending champions, the UPNG Pythons. The Third UPNG Team is Medfac from the School of Medicine, Taurama campus.

Hospital leaves kerosene lamp days behind

The Rural Clinical School, which is a satellite campus for the University of PNG’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences, was recently opened by Health Minister Dr Lino Tom.

Veteran doctor and lecturer in the discipline of rural and generalist medicine with the school of medicine, Dr David Mills, described the development as a “bit of a dream” and reminisced on the years when they would conduct operations at the Kompiam District Hospital under the light of kerosene lamps. 

“But it’s not a dream,” he said. “It’s a lot of hard work over many, many years.

UPNG Students host Unity Games

The games were organized as part of their semester break festival with the theme of “Promoting Integral Human Development”. Several sports took place across the fields including athletics, soccer, Rugby League 9s, touch rugby (football), tennis, basketball, volleyball, to name a few.

Present on the day as well was the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC), who were invited to put up their booth and promote the upcoming Olympic Day on the 23rd of June.

The theme for the Olympic Day is “Let’s Move.”

New buses for UPNG

NGCB Chief Operating Officer, Paul Ketombing, handed over the keys of a 25-seater coaster bus and a 15-seater HiAce bus to UPNG Acting Registrar Roboam Kakap at the Ela Motors, Badili Showroom in Port Moresby.

The donation is part of NGCB's "give back program," which aims to support education and community development. 

Mr. Ketombing expressed pride in partnering with UPNG to provide the buses, which he believes will enhance the educational experience of students and contribute to the university's growth.

Over 1000 graduate at UPNG

The 68th UPNG graduation ended with the School of Medicine & Health Sciences. The theme for graduation was ‘Traversing the Academic Pathway to achieve Personal Success for National and International Recognition’.

The UPNG are expecting representatives of the University doing great things in the world with the use of their degree.

More females graduate from Law School

They graduated with either a Bachelor of Law, second class – Division 1 and second class- Division 2, Pass and Diploma in Law (Prosecution).

The one week graduation started off with School of Business and Public Policy. On Tuesday was for the School of Humanities and Social Science, Wednesday was School of Natural and Physical Science and end tomorrow with the UPNG School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

UPNG Vice-Chancellor, Frank Griffin, acknowledged the graduates for keeping strong and committing to their studies.

UPNG EHP grads bid farewell

EHPSU President, Alu Sapu, said it was a pleasure to have been part of the student union. He congratulated the graduating members and wished them well.

Sapu, a final year student from the School of Business and Public Administration, said 48 student members are graduating from five different schools.

First year student, Vasili Unia was honored to be part of the student union, and farewell program. Over 250 EHP students attended the farewell at the UPNG New Lecture Theatre.

Miss PNG promotes good qualities

The theme for the network was ‘An Influential Woman is a Woman of substance’ and Miss Nicholas who spoke about how she sees a woman of substance.

“I’d like to break down this theme into my own understanding with three main characters. Introspective, empathic and faithful. This is how I see a woman of substance.

UPNG to build Sir Michael monument

In tribute, the University of Papua New Guinea held a commemoration service Friday evening at its Waigani Campus.

In attendance was Prime Minister James Marape.

The Prime Minister commended the University’s management and student leaders for the permanent way in which they have chosen to honour a great leader in Sir Michael, by announcing a plan to erect a monument in his honour.

“Today is really my privilege to be part of this occasion where our university, led by students who are initiating this monument to be built in honour of our great Grand Chief.
