2023 Youth Parliament gets underway in Port Moresby

Facilitated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA in partnership with the National Youth Development Authority and with funding support from the European Union’s Spotlight Initiative, the Youth Parliament is being held from 11th - 15th December 2023.

The Youth Parliament was first conducted in 2020 and since then it has extended to the provincial level, with UNFPA and NYDA, convening the first provincial youth parliament in Morobe, this year.

PNG complete population analysis

The consultation involved a two-day in-depth dialogue with important stakeholders and government partner.

Led by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) with strategic donor support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the PSA process involves an examination of the connections between various population trends, economic advancement, and the sustainability of development.

According to UNFPA’s Deputy Representative Dr. Rena Dona, the PSA is an analytical tool that looks into population variables like:

Solar lights installed at Lae Area Medical Store

The Lae AMS team managed to successfully set up the lights at the warehouse with two flat lights around the yard and the two security lights on the roof of the warehouse. The remaining lights will be set up inside the warehouse storage space.

According to the Acting Assistant Manager Lukey Pokapon, it has been almost a decade since the Lae AMS had proper working lights.

“It has been close to 10 years since we had proper lights in and around the warehouse and it has been a security risk for the team and the medicine suppliers stored here,” Pokapon shared.

Condom Programming developed for PNG

The program would put the rights, needs and aspiration of all sexually active individuals at the centre.

The guidelines are being developed for the National Department of Health and the National AidsCouncil.

Facilitated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Comprehensive Condom Programming Strategy (CCPS) Strategic & Result Framework Workshop held last Friday had important stakeholders discussing the future of CCPS in PNG by contextualizing the strategy into PNG and reviewing how best the strategy can be implemented across the country.

UNFPA Launches Bilum Campaign

The UNFPA also shared the Preamble to the Constitution, for the first time available in both English and Tok Pisin with the Government, NGOs, media and other partners during the launch.

The bilum campaign is a partnership initiative with the National Museum of Papua New Guinea.

Florence Kamel, founder of the Goroka Bilum Festival and PNG senior officials, was among at least 100 dignitaries who participated in the launch.

End stigma: UNFPA

“In adopting the Sustainable Development Goals, the international community committed to ending AIDS by 2030,” says the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

“This will only be achieved by ensuring everyone’s right to health. This right is jeopardised when people face stigma and discrimination, and when they lack information, services and agency.

“Stigma and discrimination, which remain concretely present in communities all over the world, play a particularly incendiary role in continuing HIV transmission.
