Tuition fees

Goilala students grateful

This year Member for Goilala, Casmiro Aia had allocated funds to pay for students studying in 21 different tertiary institutions including IBS University who received the tuition scholarships on behalf of 17 students on Wednesday 26th April.

Hazel Kopa-IBS Scholar 1st year taking up Economics and development studies said total school fee for IBS is K16,000 per student per year, so a subsidy of this amount is very economical.

“Suspension of school heads unrealistic”

CPS PNG President Paul Harricknen was referring Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombradirective as unrealistic.

“Every year school subsidies do not reach schools on time. Schools have to run on empty for almost the whole year before some drops of their funds arrive.

“That is why schools charge project fees to help them start on a good foot for school year.”

Mr Harricknen said that any suspension of school heads questions the Government’s policy slogan of ‘Leavign No Child Behind’, when children’s education is delayed and jeopardized as a result.

Governor clarifies tuition fees

“Ol bai baim displa skul fi go lo akaunt blo ol displa skuls,” he said. (They will deposit the fees in the respective schools’ accounts.)

“Nesenol Gavman em committed lo mekim, na ol stat peim K300 million go pinis. (The National Government has made the commitment, and has already started by paying K300 million.)

Ol board of management tasol mas sekim akaunt blo ol lo make sure displa mani kam insait o nogat. (Schools’ board of management need to check their accounts to confirm whether the money is there.)

Education Minister warns schools

The Department of Education emphasizes that no school fees or project fees are to be charged by schools in the national education system in 2023.

Following the Education Minister’s policy statement made in Parliament regarding the government’s Tuition Fee Policy for 2023, Minister Jimmy Uguro held a press conference in Port Moresby to clarify the details on Thursday 19 January 2023.

UoG tuition fess remain the same

He said all students have to pay 60 percent of the total fees to register this year.

Dr Waniga pointed out that last year was a challenging year with pressure from the Covid-19 pandemic, national Election and 6.7 magnitude earthquake. However he noted that the University managed to end the academic year smoothly.

On other related issues, all dormitories remain damaged with a need for funding to cater for temporary accommodation but the administration is still waiting for the funding.

Tuition Fees Subsidised

While presenting the school fee cheques to various schools yesterday, 12 August, Mr Tkatchenko said every year for the last 10 years Port Moresby South electorate with the help of NCD Governor, Powes Parkop had committed K2 million towards education.

Out of the K2 million Moresby South boasts of subsidizing school fees, building infrastructures for schools, teachers houses and much more.

It is the vision of the Port Moresby South electorate to have an educated and literate population to be a role model in contributing to the development of the city and the nation.
