In a media statement issued today, Governor Gary Juffa applauded the swift action of the Conservation Environmental Protection Authority (CEPA) in suspending the permits.

Governor Juffa stated that the companies currently operating there were doing so with illegal permits and licenses procured fraudulently, given that all applications for various permits and licenses were null and void.

These new flights will connect Tufi with both Port Moresby and Popondetta.

The new service links the surrounding communities of Tufi to the capital of Northern – Popondetta – and Port Moresby, aiding the movement of public servants and bringing in much needed necessities in terms of health, education and infrastructure materials to drive the government’s agenda on delivery of services to the wider rural community.

Alma Jagiri (33), Bernard Jagiri (29) and a 17-year-old from Bauwame village, Tufi appeared in court after they were arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Alma's husband, Kelly Avedi.

They appeared before Magistrate Mekeo Gauli at the Waigani Committal Court, who read and explained their charge to them before ordering for the 17-year-old's case to be transferred to the juvenile court.

According to the police summary of facts, the incident took place after Alma went to her maiden family house on the night of Oct 29, 2016.

One of tourist destinations in the country, Tufi in Northern Province, is one of those least developed districts in the Ijivitari electorate.

Northern Governor Gary Juffa told Loop PNG that his administration is still waiting on the government to release fundings earmarked for the development of Tufi.

He said Tufi is a tourist destination and infrastructure like airstrips and wharves must be of paramount importance.

"Proper airstrip facilities are really needed at Tufi to attract tourists into the beautiful Tufi Fjords," says Juffa.
