Trump to launch new social media platform TRUTH Social

He said the platform would "stand up to the tyranny of big tech", accusing them of silencing opposing voices in the US.

Social media played a pivotal role in Mr Trump's bid for the White House and was his favourite means of communication as president.

But Mr Trump was banned from Twitter and suspended from Facebook after his supporters stormed the US Capitol.

Social media firms were under pressure throughout Mr Trump's presidency to ban him, with his posts criticised as insulting, inflammatory or peddling outright falsehoods.

Trump would 'absolutely' talk to North Korea on phone

US President Donald Trump says he would "absolutely" be willing to talk on the phone to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and that he hopes a positive development results from talks between North Korea and South Korea.

North Korea agreed on Friday to hold official talks with South Korea next week, the first in more than two years, hours after Washington and Seoul delayed a military exercise amid a standoff over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.

Trump says fire and fury threat 'maybe not tough enough'

He said the regime would be in trouble "like few nations have ever been" if they do not "get their act together".

His comments came after Pyongyang announced it had a plan to fire four missiles near the US territory of Guam.

The New Zealand Defence Force has confirmed an Air Force aircraft is in Guam as part of a military exercise.

Tensions between the two countries have escalated in recent weeks after North Korea tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles in July.
