Treasurer visits UoT

During his visit, Minister Ling-Stuckey met with the University’s senior executive management team to discuss budgetary matters of the institution and do a budgetary presentation.

The university management also had the opportunity to discuss its five-year strategic plans and present a report on its infrastructural plans and budgetary requirements in alignment to the University’s vision and mission.

Minister Ling-Stuckey announced a funding commitment of K250,000 on behalf of the Marape-Basil Government at the end of the meeting.

Election funds for police irks Pruaitch

Treasury Minister and National Alliance Party parliamentary leader Patrick Pruaitch has back stabbed the National Government which his party was a member to in the last five years.     

Minister Pruaitch said the ability for police to secure a free and fair election is now being compromised with inadequate funding.   

Pruaitch said, he was shocked to learn last Friday during a meeting with Police Commissioner Gari Baki that the police force only received K8 million of its K121 million budget allocation for election operations.

Pruaitch to contest against 18 candidates

Pruaitch will be vying to return for his third consecutive term as the local MP for Aitape – Lumi District.   

The other unconfirmed names of  candidates are; Godfried Solmu, Canisius Kapu, John Ramoi, Job Tulipi, Andrew Oboi, Jerry Manyir, Zachery Miroi, Samson Kupu, Eddy Saweni, Leo Wamo, Solwai Emmanuel Mambei, Harry Rainald, Camillus Wulal, Paul Saroya, Philemon Tamari, John Awei Yemi, Chris Kati Kanako, and Brian Simbe.  

The  eight weeks of campaign will end on June 23, followed by 14 days of polling nationwide.

Foreign missions miss 10 fortnights, says Pruaitch

Treasury Minister, Patrick Pruaitch, revealed this and said despite intervention made the backlog is great and possibly too late to stop some dire consequences.

Pruaitch said this during a National Alliance Party event in Port Moresby where he also spoke against the PNC-led coalition government’s economic strategy which he says has resulted in massive debt, a plunging GDP and growth rate, and a debt-to-GDP ratio myth.

K223m loan for water roll out programs

Treasury Minister, Patrick Pruaitch, signed the loan agreement today with World Bank PNG Country Manager, Anne Tully, as well as Planning and Monitoring Secretary, Hakaua Harry, and Water PNG Managing Director, Raka Taviri.

PNG Government is also counterpart funding the program with K20 million bringing the total funding to K243 million.

Minister Pruaitch said the signing today was a milestone for both the country and the World Bank and was grateful for the support which he said will support the government’s development plans to improve living standards.

Pruaitch defends DSIP funding

He was answering a series of questions about the relevance of DSIP funds after revealing the 2017 National Budget at the press lock-up on Monday.

After savings measures were introduced with declining revenue, all government priority areas experience cuts in the K12.9 billion budget handed down, except the DSIP component.  

But Provincial Service Improvement Program (PSIP) money allocated to provincial government to support their districts got a K10 million slice.
