Nelson Stone gives back to community

Nelson Stone, who is recovering from an injury, is using rugby league as a vehicle of change in one of the notorious suburbs in Port Moresby.

As the saying goes, ‘home is where the heart is’, the PNG runner had registered a team and has taken youths under his wing as coach of Tokarara Nest United.

This is the inaugural season for the team playing in the Hohola Rugby League offseason competition.

Stone told Loop PNG: “I decided to give back to the community by forming this team.”

Tokarara Nest United as it is called was formed and supported by Papua New Guineas blazer and 400m sprint athlete Nelson Stone and the recent PM’s XIII centre Ila Alu in partnership with Agmark Gurias.

Agmark Gurias as a major sponsor has supported the team through sponsoring them with 22 sets of new jerseys for the competition.

Teams coach and manager Nelson Stone said this was his part in giving back to the community through sports.

“This is how we can help our young ones become like us and one day represent the country like Ila Alu,” he said.
