Titans

Fighting spirit can define Titans' season

Entering the game under-manned due to an injury crisis, trailing 12-0 after 15 minutes against the competition leaders and then losing a winger for the game after just 17 minutes, a brave Titans defeat would have earned widespread admiration.

But instead the 16 players left standing in various states of physical duress refused to accept any of the excuses at their disposal and went on to record a morale-boosting 26-14 victory.

Titans complete player swap for Super League sensation

Greenwood is considered one of the best young back-rowers in the Super League and has been on the radar of several NRL clubs.

Both Taia and Greenwood are awaiting visas before they officially join their new clubs.

"We wouldn't want to stand in the way of any player wishing to ply their trade elsewhere and Joe has been given a good opportunity at the Gold Coast,” Saints coach Kieron Cunningham said.

"It's always difficult to lose a home-grown player and personally I will be sad to see him leave.

Bennett hunting Sims and James to bolster pack

Sims is unsettled at Newcastle and is keen to settle at a more established and successful club, meaning there is high possibility of him walking out on the final year of his $400,000 a year contract.

Meanwhile James has reportedly been offered a big money contract by the inter-state rivals, although he is set to reject the deal and finalise a new three-year commitment to the Titans.

Bennett is desperate for a forward leader and might have to settle for only Sims, with James likely to stay put at the Gold Coast.

Nines the litmus test in Elgey's comeback

Twelve months after suffering the ACL injury that ended his 2016 campaign before it even began, Elgey insists that he is mentally free of any lingering demons but admits the true test will come in his return to competition at Eden Park on February 4

Titans bow out as Broncos advance

In what was their last match at Lang Park for this season, the Broncos gave retiring captain Corey Parker a great send off in front of over 43,000 adoring fans.

Hayne to play first game with Titans

Hayne had been in doubt for the Gold Coast’s crunch clash with Penrith on Saturday due to a corked calf, and coach Neil Henry says he wouldn’t hesitate to rest his star signing if Hayne wasn’t 100 per cent fit.

But having trained on Friday Hayne is set to take his place barring any flare up of the injury on match day, leaving off-contract custodian David Mead relegated to 18th man duties.

Meanwhile Manly will be without NSW Origin utility Dylan Walker for their clash with Canberra on Saturday due to a shoulder injury.

Storm monster Titans in seven-try slaughter

Melbourne mentor Craig Bellamy's 350th NRL game in charge was thrown into some kind of chaos prior to kick-off with three-quarters Richard Kennar, Young Tonumaipea and Marika Koroibete all ruled out with injury but he simply replaced them by big boppers who terrorised the Titans all game.

Titans v Dragons:Preview

Following last week's 25-20 loss to the Sharks it appears Titans coach Neil Henry has finally tired of the 'brave' tag for his team and would instead prefer to see the side earn the ascendancy early and go on with the job.

Lae Tigers too strong for Owan Titans

Titans showed class in the first 40 minutes, leading 12-6 in a trial match played at Yonki yesterday in front of a packed local crowd.

Tigers scored a successfully converted try in the first quarter after some strong performances by both sides.

After studying the Tigers’ game, Titans coach Merrah Kipefa regrouped his troops resulting in them running over the line twice to collect eight points.

The conversions found the mark, ensuring the home side went for the break with a 12-6 lead.

Broncos hold off brave Titans

The Titans lost five-eighth Tyrone Roberts to injury during the week then prop David Shillington during the warm-up, and few would have given them much chance of competing with the competition favourites.

Brisbane at one stage led 22-4, but Daniel Mortimer and Zeb Taia got the Titans back into the match, combining twice to get the Gold Coast within six points.

In the end it was the experience of the Broncos side that delivered them the win, with the Brisbane now sitting top of the NRL ladder after tonight's eight-point win.
