Madang FC clears air over false report

Madang FC Assistant Manager Chales Romo in a media statement said the report given by Welgris United Management and was published in a daily newspaper and also went viral on Facebook is not true and spoils the name of Madang FC.

He said Welgris claimed that in the first half of the game the goal keeper was shot at using sling shots by Madang FC supporters and the players were also hit with stones in the second half.

Romo said the reports given by the Welgris Management are not true.

Pom FC in tough tussle with Gigira Laitepo

The Southern Conference game will start at 12:30pm tomorrow  and is expected to attract a huge turn out at the Bisini Grounds.

The main game at 3pm will see Hekari United FC play PKA Rapatona FC.

The last Southern Conference game on Sunday is the showdown between Huawei PS United FC and Erema Gulf FC. This is scheduled for 3pm.

To the Northern Conference, all games will be played tomorrow in Lae and Goroka.

The Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium will host two games.

Hekari aims for six straight wins in NSL

They take on Gigira Laitepo United FC at 3pm today at Bisini Soccer Grounds in Port Moresby in round six of the NSL competition.

Hekari remains unbeaten in the southern conference on 15 points after round five while rival Gigira Laitepo has five points on the ladder.

The minor premiers will be banking on skipper and national representative David Muta to lead them to victory and the strong attack of Koriak Upaiga, Papalau Awele and Erickson Komeng.

Newcomer Gigira has top players July Elijah, Ian Yanum and Moses Arisim to keep them on track.

NSL kicks off today after festive break

This weekend will see round six with five games to be played today and one tomorrow.

In the Southern Conference in Port Moresby, today’s games will see Huawei PS United FC play FC POM at 12:30pm while PKA Rapatona FC will take on Erema Gulf FC in the main game at 3pm.

On Sunday, Gigira Laitepo United FC will face Hekari United FC at 3pm. All three games will played at the Bisini Grounds.

For the Northern Conference, Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium will play host to two games.

After five rounds in the Telikom National Soccer League competition, Gigira are sitting fourth in the Southern Conference pool out of six teams.

They have recorded one win, two draws and two losses.

But coach Robert Sabadi says his team has been working hard over the Christmas break to improve on these two vital areas. These areas are to improve their defense and create more opportunities to score more points.

“These areas are what win games. We’ve had a few injuries in the team but it’s nothing serious and the boys are all ready for the new year,” Sabadi said.

Gigira gets K100,000 from Kumul Petroleum

The cheque presentation was done today at the Bisini Grounds and witnessed by the players and club officials.

General Manager Government & Community Affairs, Ian Marru said Kumul Petroleum was happy to support sports in the country in both urban and the rural areas.

He said the sponsorship of K100,000 is the biggest support so far given to sports.

“Kumul Petroleum is happy to partner with a team that has a name that reflects the famous Hela Gas prophesy which we are associated with through the PNG LNG Project.

Hekari determined to keep top spot

The team took to the field today at the Bisini Grounds with the players playing friendly matches among themselves.

A definite boost to the team’s campaign will be the return of striker Tommy Semmy and the addition of midfielder Wira Wama.

Team manager Vonnie Kapi Natto said the squad of 24 had split into four teams to play.

“We had Christmas off but the boys are back and working hard at training to keep themselves fit.

Karava prevents win for FC Port Moresby

Karava saved the day in the final minutes of the game at Bisini Soccer Grounds  for his team to level the score 1-1.

FC Pom was on the move in the first half and wasted no time, scoring in the first 20 minutes through Nathan James.

Pom maintained defence, preventing any goal from Erema and took the lead at half time, 1-0.

The second half was firing with Erema having a lot of missed opportunities to score and their attackers were stopped by FC Pom’s smart goal keeper and strong backline.
