PNG athletes appointed as SDG champions

This follows a new partnership between the United Nations in Papua New Guinea and the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee to promote the global goals.

The athletes, namely Ryan Pini (swimming), Lua Rikis (netball), Tania Mairi Mahuru (shooting), Christopher Amini (cricket) and Milton Kisapai (hockey) will be delivering messages about the global goals through sports events, educational programs by the Olympic Committee, and media channels, to raise awareness and encourage people to stand up for the goals.

Mahuru gunning for Rio

And our very own PNG female gunner and Pacific Games gold medalist Tania Mairi Mahuru is taking part in the Air Pistol 40 and sports pistol event.

“This is my second real competition since the Pacific Games so I don’t really know what the other shooters are like. I haven’t taken part in an international qualifier event before but we’ll see how it goes,” Tania said.

“My coaches and team mates have huge faith and confidence in me after the Pacific Games as I have been in good form and have been improving in the little competitions we have every weekend,” she said.
