American boxer Day undergoes brain surgery

Day was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after he was knocked out by his compatriot in the 10th round of a bout on the undercard for Oleksandr Usyk's heavyweight debut against Chazz Witherspoon.

The 27-year-old, who was removed from the ring on a stretcher, is in a coma following emergency surgery.

Day's promoter Lou DiBella tweeted: "Pat Day makes any room he is in a better place. I've never met anyone who's met Patrick and not liked him. Never heard him utter a mean word.

DNA surgery on embryos removes disease

The team at Sun Yat-sen University used a technique called base editing to correct a single error out of the three billion "letters" of our genetic code.

They altered lab-made embryos to remove the disease beta-thalassemia. The embryos were not implanted.

Zac Mitchell, 20, was injured in April while working on a remote farming property in Western Australia.

Mr Mitchell said fellow workers had attempted to preserve his thumb immediately after the accident.

"They put it in the esky [cooler] with some ice," he told the BBC.

Doctors operated on a bullet lodged in 26-year-old Jorah Shane's spine. The man who shot her killed her father, Jason, and mother, Tana, on Wednesday after they stopped to help him and he told them he ran out of gas, according to Ada Shane, Jason's sister.

Police in Wyoming arrested Jesus Deniz Mendoza, 18, about 120 miles away from the shooting. FBI agents arrived Thursday to start proceedings to bring him back to Montana to face charges, the Park County Sheriff's Office said.
