Sumkar people call on MP to visit district

A chief from Surumarang village, Ben Samlal told this newsroom today that since their MP left for Port Moresby during the government formation, he never returned to the district since.

Mr Samlal raised concerns that the only bridge that connects the people to the Madang township has collapsed and is yet to be fixed while their MP is still somewhere in the city.

He said many children are not attending schools on the other side of the river because their safety is not guaranteed when using rafts to cross the river.

Sungilbar leader asks for a high school

Councilor Willie Malubun, from Busken Village, made a plea to Minister for National Planning and Monitoring, Richard Maru, during the Minister’s recent trip to Madang.

Malubu informed Maru that while funds had been allocated for the project, only a sawmill was bought.

Minister Maru said over the last five years, funds had been disbursed to all Members of Parliament for such projects.

And he failed to understand why such a project was implemented.

UBI Hills crowned as Sumkar soccer champions

UBI Hills defeated Sumbar 2 of Talidig Sports Association on Monday in Kinim Station, Karkar Island.

UBI Hills walked away with the champions cup and K1,500 cash prize money while Sumbar grab the runner-up trophy with K1,000.

The third placing went to 2MK club of Mamoke area in Karkar Island with K700 cash and fourth placin to Bisel of Biranis village in Sumgilbar Local Level Government area with K500 cash prize.
