Marape invites France President to visit PNG

The invitation was extended during a meeting between PM Marape and Walid Fouque, Special Advisor for Asia and the Pacific to President Macron, held in Port Moresby on Monday.

Marape and President Macron previously met in Gabon, Central Africa, in March of this year on the sidelines of the One Forest Summit.

While discussing the potential visit, PM Marape stated: "There is a possibility that President Macron may visit PNG, however, this is subject to continued dialogue between France and PNG," expressing optimism about the potential visit.

Indonesian President to visit PNG

Confirmation of the one-day visit on July 6, 2023, was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Marape and Indonesian Ambassador to PNG, Andriana Supandi, in Port Moresby last Friday, June 2, 2023.

President Widodo’s State Visit to PNG follows PM Marape’s State Visit to Indonesia in March 2022.

Also present at the meeting were Indonesian Embassy officials and PNG Foreign Affairs Secretary Elias Wohengu.

PM arrives in NZ for Official Visit

Upon arriving in Auckland from Fiji, PM Marape is scheduled to meet his New Zealand  counterpart, the Rt Hon. Jacinda Ardern, at the Government House.

There, PM Marape and his counterpart will hold a one-on-one prime ministerial discussion, followed by bilateral discussion with the PNG-NZ delegations.

Australia’s PM departs Port Moresby

Turnbull arrived on Friday evening for his official state visit to Australia’s former colony and largest aid recipient.

Yesterday, Turnbull visited the Isurava Memorial Site in Northern Province and Bomana War Cemetery in Port Moresby, to pay respect to former veterans who fought against the Japanese advancement towards Port Moresby in 1942.

Also, native Papua New Guineans were used as aids and carriers by Australians during the Kokoda Battle in World War II.

Queen Elizabeth II begins state visit to Germany

The 89-year-old monarch and her husband Prince Philip, 94, received a red-carpet welcome as they left their jet at Tegel airport on a grey Berlin evening. A German military honor guard lined their route to their car, while artillery fired a 21-gun salute and fighter jets overflew the area in tribute.

The two shook hands with the British ambassador and others before walking to their waiting limousine to take them to the capital's Hotel Adlon, which overlooks the historic Brandenburg Gate.
