Sky Pacific and Walesi sign milestone MOU

Digicel Founder, Chairman and Interim CEO, Mr. Denis O’Brien, signed the MOU with Walesi Chairman, Mr. Sharvada Sharma, at the Digicel headquarters in Nabua, Suva Tuesday morning.

Mr. O’Brien said Sky Pacific will start preparatory work for channel delivery and billing integration soon to enable the rollout of Sky Pacific subscriptions via Walesi later this year.

From noon today, it will be broadcast for tens of thousands of Sky Pacific customers across the region.

Since Digicel has taken ownership of Sky Pacific a mere 2 months ago, they have already started improving content- and the introduction of the Paramount Channel is further testament to their dedication to bring about positive change for customers.

Digicel finally granted permission to operate Sky Pacific

Attorney-General and Minister for Communications Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum outlined in a press conference three different licences given to Digicel Fiji, effective from Monday:

  • Broadcast licence under the Television Decree;
  • Spectrum licence under the regulations of the National Spectrum Decree; and
  • Special licence under the Media Industry Development Decree.

Minister Sayed-Khaiyum said Digicel could not show any advertisement unless an agreement with the three existing free-to-air (FBC TV, Fiji One, Mai TV) channels is made.
