Wood steps down as RFL chief

Wood, who is also chairman of the Rugby League International Federation, has served on the RFL board since 2001.

"I am extremely honoured and privileged to have served as chief executive of the Rugby Football League," said Wood.

"I am an unashamed rugby league fan and can think of no greater honour than to be asked to fulfil the role of CEO for the Rugby Football League.

"However, leadership presents many tests, and the greatest of these is to recognise when it is time to step out and this is the right moment to do so.

Rugby league coaches undergo NRL certified accreditation course

The coaching accreditation course is the first stage of a three phase program to achieve a PNGRFL coaching certificate accreditation to the NRL.

Thirty one coaches from the Southern and New Guinea Islands confederates took part in the first clinic from March 6-8 in Port Moresby.

Twenty six coaches from the Highlands and Northern Confederates participated in the second clinic from March 10-12 in Goroka.

Among the participants were 13 former players from the Kumuls, SP Hunters and Digicel Cup, and six women club coaches.

RFL cancels England training camp in Dubai

England head coach Wayne Bennett was set to take 17 leading Super League players for a fortnight-long training camp in Dubai in early January.

However, former England boss Tony Smith was among a host of Super League club coaches to criticise the move.

He claimed it would disrupt their preparations for the start of the 2017 Betfred Super League season for little reward, and the RFL appears to have backed down.
