Media barred from NCD Regional counting venue

Loop PNG as well as other media reporters have confirmed that they were not allowed into the venue.

Electoral officials at the venue say this was the directive from the Election Manager, Alwyn Jimmy.

Media were informed that Assistant Election Manager, Bale Kavanamur, will be at the venue and any questions regarding the instruction can be raised with him.

Meanwhile, media personnel have not been barred from the Moresby North-West counting venue.

Rita Flynn counting yet to resume

Loop PNG was on location this morning to observe the movement of scrutineers, officials and security into the venue, which hosts the Moresby North-West and NCD regional counting.

The strip of road, once populated with small time businesses and betelnut sales, have all been cleared out by police forces.

This is due to incidents that have happened in recent times outside the Rita Flynn gates.

Police stationed on site say the place had to be cleared for the safety of the officials.

NCD counting to start at 6pm

On the other hand, counting for North West Open is expected to commence tomorrow.

This is according to the Election Manager Alwyn Jimmy.

The message was relayed to a huge crowd, including counting officials, in front of Rita Flynn complex today by Superintendent Operations, Fred Tundu.

Tundu addressed all queries and advised counting officials to be at the venue at the given time.

They will be issued vests on shift and allowed into the venue to take their positions.

Slow start to scheduled NCD counting

Counting officials, who turned up as early as 8am, are still waiting to be given access into the counting venue at the Rita Flynn Sporting complex.

Only a handful of Electoral officers are present while heavily armed police personnel man the entrance and parameter of the venue.

Ballot boxes remain locked up at the site.
