Last year, Chris learned to read Tok Pisin when he attended an adult literacy training conducted by the Baptist Union PNG (BUPNG) in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands Province.

Chris hails from Markham in Morobe Province. He didn't have any financial support so he was unable to pursue an education. Despite that, he participated in community activities, attended church and was a youth leader. It was through these activities that Chris attended the adult literacy course.

The founder of BiblioRemedy isn't a licensed therapist, nor is she currently an English teacher, although she did work as one for 10 years in France, and has spent years shelving books at the library and in bookstores.

Courtney is a kind of book whisperer.

For as long as she can remember she's had a knack for matching people with books that fit with their intellectual interests. But some clients want more when they make an appointment with her at her office in Lexington, Kentucky.

The campaign includes the launch of a multi-media competition today which is open to children up to 16 years old from SPC member countries.

Literacy and numeracy skills provide a foundation for future generations to succeed at school and in life. The campaign, led by SPC’s Educational Quality and Assessment Programme aims to highlight how reading skills are of use in so many aspects of life beyond the classroom.
