According a media statement, re-fuelling commenced at all PUMA Energy locations covering Port Moresby since midday yesterday.

PUMA Energy Country Manager, Hulala Tokome said: “While there were circumstances out of our control (weather related in Australia), it is vital that we manage any situation. Our team has done this, minimising disruptions to all our valued customers.”

In a press conference held this afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso, said there will no longer be any fuel issues experienced over the next few weeks and months.

This morning major centres across the country were hit hard with fuel shortage with a few fuel stations temporarily closing just after midday.

This prompted for an immediate intervention; the DPM met with Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) and representatives including Puma chief executive officer today to find solutions to the ongoing fuel crisis.

Puma Energy Country General Manager, Hulala Tokome said Susu Mamas is a leading service provider and is one of Puma’s Community Social Responsibility partners in the country.

“The wonderful work that you do throughout the country, you operate in certain locations that we also operate in. We are proud to be associated with Susu Mamas, you do a lot of work in the community and we are proud to continue the support, especially with the reporting that you provide us with,” Mr Tokome said.

It is the first of three service stations planned for refurbishment this year by Puma as part of its ongoing program to modernize and expand its network of 100 service stations.

The station, which is one of Puma’s busiest in Port Moresby, was officially opened by NCD Governor Powes Parkop.

It was updated on budget and to schedule to Puma’s latest global standards, similar to Puma’s new flagship station at Gerehu which opened at the end of last year.

Puma Energy recently announced the extension of its support to St John Ambulance through the supply of fuel and lubricants for another two years.

“We are also proud to continue to support St John especially with the work that they do in Port Moresby and now branching out to the other centres is a good testament,” Puma’s ONG Country Manager, Hulala Tokome said.

He added that this is line with one of Puma’s CSR pillars, which is also in terms of the emergency response they provide.

Puma Energy PNG staff and contractors have passed an astonishing safety landmark of 14 million working hours without an injury requiring time off at their 28 operational sites around the country.

That adds up to almost seven years of safe working by about 1000 Puma and contractor staff keeping the country supplied with the refined products and services to keep the country’s economy moving.

Trafigura currently is the majority shareholder in Puma. Post-acquisition means that Trafigura will have controlling interest in Puma.

ICCC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Paulus Ain said although both Trafigura and Puma are private companies both incorporated in Singapore.

The parties applied to the ICCC for clearance because Puma operates in Papua New Guinea through its three subsidiaries; Puma Energy Bunkering PNG Limited, Puma Energy PNG Ltd and Puma Energy PNG Refining Ltd.

Director, Vincent Kumura, said the 10 fuel drums from Puma Energy were the largest fuel donation they have received as a small community-based organisation of remote Bundi.

“The foundation will be using these fuel drums to help clear the road to Upper Bundi from Gembogl, Simbu and service the Upper Bundi Ambulance being donated by the Sir Brian Bell Foundation,” Kumura stated.

With new interests coming in from other centers, Tournament organizers are calling on clubs yet to register to do so now before the deadline.

There are already overwhelming interests  for the annual Sportstok 7s Tournament coming from new teams from Alotau, Kavieng, Kimbe, Lae, Wewak and Goroka.

Being an invitational 7s teams that registered before the deadline of March 1^st will get in.

With limited spots now available Tournament Director and franchise owner, Elsie Passingan is urging interested teams to register now or they will miss out.

It was claimed that local businesses in the country are being overlooked by corporate giants. And Puma Energy is giving business to foreign-owned firms to run and operate fuel stations and local SMEs.

He demanded an explanation from the entities and called on the consumer watchdog to investigate such deals.

According to online records of the Investment Promotion Authority, Trophy Haus Limited’s subsidiary, Fone Haus, runs and operates the service stations at Five-Mile, Waigani and Rainbow.
