Officers trained to become Prosecutors

Comprising of eight Royal Papua New Guinea Police Officers and two lawyers from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, a total of 10 officers have undergo this prestigious Prosecution Residential School program for nine months and were issued certificates recently.

They are part of the 5th batch of trainers who have undergone the Prosecution Residential School program initiated by the Papua New Guinea – Australia Policing Partnership or PNG – APP.

The Westchester County district attorney's office said Wednesday that authorities have reopened the investigation into the 2008 death of Jennifer Berry's 2 1/2-week-old son.

In that case, she brought the boy to a hospital at least once before he was found dead in a basement of her home.

An autopsy determined he died of natural causes related to sudden infant death syndrome.

Brazil's former chief-of-staff charged with corruption

Corruption, racketeering and money laundering charges against Jose Dirceu were filed on Friday.

Sixteen other people were charged, including Joao Vaccari Neto, the former treasurer of Brazil's governing Workers' Party and Renato de Souza Duque, Petrobras' former head of corporate services.

Dirceu is the most senior member of the ruling Workers' Party to be taken into custody in connection with the scheme.

   

Pistorius prosecutors file appeal papers at Supreme Court

Court registrar Paul Myburgh said the papers were filed Monday, four days ahead of Pistorius' expected release from prison to be moved to house arrest.

Police say Adrian Jerry Gonzalez lured Madyson Middleton from a courtyard where she had been riding her scooter over the weekend into his family's apartment where he attacked and killed her.

Gonzalez remains in custody at the Santa Cruz County juvenile detention center, where he has been held since being arrested Monday evening near a recycling bin where the girl's body had been dumped.

Son of Boston police captain charged in terror bomb plot

Alexander Ciccolo (chih-KOH'-loh) is accused in a criminal complaint unsealed Monday of receiving four guns July 4 from a person cooperating with the Western Massachusetts Joint Terrorism Task Force.

An FBI affidavit says the 23-year-old Adams resident had talked with the cooperating witness in recorded conversations about his plans to commit acts inspired by the Islamic State group, including setting off pressure-cooker bombs at an unidentified university. 

Prosecutor: Balcony deaths could bring manslaughter charges

However, Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley declined to discuss any possible target of her investigation, saying it could end with no charges being filed.

"We will ultimately have to make a determination whether the facts support criminal charges and whether those facts can be proven beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law," O'Malley said during a packed news conference at her Oakland office.

Six students were killed last week, including five from Ireland, and seven others were injured when a balcony broke from the side of a Berkeley apartment building.
