Police commander starts parades in city

This week he has hosted three parades for the CID, Traffic and the Boroko police.

This morning at Boroko, Met Supt Perou N'Dranou reiterated discipline and communication from the station command down to the rank and file.

He challenged the personnel gathered to tighten up on their hand over documentation such as situation reports as well as arrests statistics.

He says the station needs to improve on their overall management as well.

Police want Tatana law breakers identified

They do want the locals to take the matter and law into their own hands.

Manus police awareness program starts

The awareness is an important part of their policing program in the wards and local level governments, where the provincial police commander and his team visited Koronat Island and Timonai villages.

Police in the province recently created new divisions to deal with sexual offence cases and family and sexual violence and abuse cases.

The visits were used to carry out awareness on sexual offences, including family and sexual violence and abuse as well as general law and order issues such as homebrew production and consumption.

Padlocked genitalia: Suspect in police custody

According to police report, this is prior to continuous and severe abuse that had been inflicted by the male suspect, who is a close relative of the woman’s husband.  

The 39-year-old man (name withheld) from Oro and Morobe was apprehended around 9am yesterday at Three-Mile, Morobe, following a phone call from a community leader who reported that the suspect was threatening the woman to move back with him to Nine-Mile.

The mother-of-three, who is also a nursing officer, had fled from Nine-Mile with her children after continuous abuse from the suspect.

Police to assist CS with escapee

Morgan was not at his bed at the Port Moresby General Hospital when the removal was taking place last week Wednesday.

In an interview with this newsroom, Bomana CS Jail Commander, Haraha Keko said they are have not captured the lose detainee as yet nor has he returned.

“Right now we have a commissioner’s team with us. We will have a report prepared for the police and let police take over from there,” Keko says.

He said both the police and general will be made aware of the information and that will help the team to recapture him.

Nadzab collision: 7 deaths confirmed

The deceased were four passengers on the 15-seater PMV bus and three from the five door LandCruiser, including an infant.

Graphic pictures of this fatal accident on Saturday morning were taken by onlookers and posted online, showing many injured persons and other passengers trapped in the vehicles.

Morobe PPC Augustine Wampe said the reports of the total number of injured and people involved in this accident in the early hours of January 13 are yet to be confirmed.

One Manus escapee still on the run

This now brings the total to five arrested. They were further slapped with the charge of escaping lawful custody on top of the charges they were facing before they escaped on 31 December 2017.

The three who surrendered to CS officials are Walter Ted (24) from Lukum village, Pobuma LLG, who is on wilful murder charge, Potiloh Pokuwil (28) from Buliso village, Bupi Chupen Lelemadih LLG, on attempted murder charge and 19-year-old Manuel Popres of Tingou village, Tetidu LLG. He is facing armed robbery, break and enter and unlawful wounding charges.  

Lae residents aid police with arrests

Yesterday, the public at Lae’s main market assisted police in arresting four suspects caught stealing a laptop from a vehicle.

According to police, the four managed to open the vehicle while the owner was in the market.

Thanks to the public, they were arrested and charged.

Police later posted pictures of the suspects on their social media page.

They say they will continue to post faces of frequent street peddlers on their Facebook page so the public can keep an eye out for them.

Roadblocks to be removed

This was agreed to by parties present in a mediation dialogue between Eda Ranu and village elders, facilitated by police around lunch time today.

Villagers this morning set up the barricades in retaliation over continuous disruption and the eventual shut down of water (three weeks back) into the village. Elders asked for the water company to allow for talks to see how best to facilitate for issues raised about the water system in the village.

Communities urged to talk with police

"Use us to facilitate for issues concerning you, to find a way forward," he encourages.

His statement follows a meeting set up between frustrated Kirakira elders and Eda Ranu officials over the disconnection of water.

The villagers set up roadblocks this morning, prompting police to interfere and hold talks with them.

The villagers claimed there was no water to the village for the past three weeks as well as sporadic supply prior to this.
