Police boss ‘aware’ of conspiracy

He alleges the attack on Parliament was part of this conspiracy.

The Police Commissioner and Commander of the Joint Security Task Force, Gari Baki, is of the strong view that the storming of Parliament was not only politically motivated but also part of a plot to take the police commissioner’s post.

Policemen arrested over Parliament rampage

Police Commissioner Gari Baki said the Policing the Police Task Force Team received credible evidence and arranged a search warrant, which was granted by the District Court.

Police boss defends appointments

Commissioner Gari Baki said the social media post questioning their employment was not only malicious but derogatory.

Naturalised citizen of Chinese descent, Qi Ming Aixinjueluo, was promoted to Deputy Director Crimes at the rank of Superintendent on October 2nd, 2018.

His counterpart, Superintendent Dennis Corcoran, who is of Australian descent, is attached with the Joint Security Task Force, attending to all APEC logistical matters.

Political commentaries undermining democracy: Baki

Commissioner Baki made the comments after media claims by the Member of Parliament for Moresby North-West, Sir Mekere Morauta, about a discredited attempt to serve an arrest warrant against the Prime Minister four years ago.

“Commissioner Baki said: “Media claims by the Member for Moresby North-West are unfortunate and misleading and only serve to undermine public confidence in law enforcement operations.

RPNGC to form special investigation team

In a statement, he said this is part of the Constabulary’s bid to clean-up the city in preparations for the 2018 APEC Leaders’ Summit in November.

Selected members of the Constabulary with good standing and character would be randomly selected from the Internal Affairs Directorate, Mobile Squads and Criminal Investigation Division to form this special investigation team.

Baki said this after detectives investigating a passport and visa scam arrested a policeman yesterday for allegedly receiving K50,000 from an Asian suspect.

No one immune to terrorism: Police Commissioner

Commissioner Baki made this comment when he officially opened a five day counter-terrorism awareness program yesterday, held at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby.

The 5 day workshop is an initiative of the Papua New Guinea-Australia Policing Partnership and is being attended by members of the APEC Joint Security Task Force. The program offers participants the opportunity for networking and learning from key counter-terrorism experts from Australia and the United States of America.

Leave granted to review Isouve suspension

The National Court today granted his application, seeking leave to review Police Commissioner Gari Baki's decision to suspend him on 23 March.

Baki's lawyer argued in court that Isouve did not exhaust administrative remedies before coming to court.

Isouve's lawyer Greg Kunjip put to court that the purported suspension notice of 23 March was erroneous, defective and unlawful.

He said suspension notices are usually for a mandatory period of 21 days. In this case, Isouve was suspended for 15 days.

It was funded by the AFP through the PNG-Australia Partnership Program.
