More PNGDF troops to be deployed this weekend

Joint Operations Commander Colonel Esekia Wenzel says that most of the defense troops for the national election security operations have been sent out over the past week.

The last of the troops will be moved out this weekend.

According to the transport schedule tomorrow, 40 more troops will be sent up while on Sunday the last twenty seven will be deployed.

Wenzel outlines that all operations are on track with the troops at Mount Hagen and Lae.

PNGDF troops deployed to Mt Hagen

The troops from Wewak and Port Moresby are part of the initial 500 troops to be sent out to assist with security detail this elections period.

Joint Operations Commander Colonel Wenzel Esekia says the PNG Defence Force are on track to support the Royal PNG Constabulary and the Electoral Commission deliver a free, fair and safe 2017 National elections.

Colonel Esekia says the PNGDF also has maritime support, with navy ships ready to back the coastal areas during this election period.

PNGDF task forces deployed

PNGDF Chief of Joint Operations, Colonel Ezekia Wenzel, says the three task forces have been deployed to locations to cater for support in security operations in the four regions.

Main defence troops to be deployed soon

The joint operations command anticipates the full contingent to be deployed come June 17.

Joint Operations Commander, Colonel Ezekia Wenzel, says the operations are scheduled to cater for a week ahead of the start of the polling period on June 24th, and a week after.

This is to ensure that all security aspects are catered to.

Initially, he says the confirmed number of troops on ground for the elections was 500, but adds that the defence will also have an additional 300 troops that will be deployed to support police commands near military establishments.

PNGDF deployment clarified

Each of the units that will be deployed out, according to the Joint Operation Forces Commander, Colonel Ezekia Wenzel, will fall under the effective command of the respective police bosses.

He explains that the troops will also be called out to high risk areas that anticipate trouble during the election period.

Colonel Wenzel also confirmed the deployment of 20 troops to assist with law and order issues in Madang Province.

He says this will be on the joint request of the Madang provincial command and the Madang provincial government.

On-going reconciliation in Bougainville a must

This is from a peace advocator and elder from the Bougainville west coast district of Kunua, Herman Siriva.

Speaking to PNG Loop,  Siriva said reconciliation is the only way forward and it’s only through this that Bougainville will go to referendum.

Just two weeks ago a major reconciliation ceremony was held in his home village of Doaso in Hahon Kunua District, where a senior veteran Barnabas Tobby reconciled with families of 22 people that where killed by the BRA. The victims included a PNGDF soldier, late Corporal Gareitz.

PNGDF Unit marks 21st anniversary

The event was witnessed by families of soldiers and colleagues from various sections within the PNGDF.

PNGDF Chief of Staff and founder of the Warrior school Major Walter Enuma was also present to witness the occasion along with other PNGDF senior members.

Central PPC Asi dismissed rumours of rape and killings

According to the post, a young girl was travelling in a bus with six men when she sent a text to the brother who was allegedly a soldier from Goldie Barracks telling him she was in a bus with six other men but she was later raped and killed by the six men.

The brother after receiving the text allegedly waited with some soldiers a turn off section of the highway but when the bus arrived, the girl was nowhere to be found.

It was alleged that the soldiers shot all six men and disposed of their body.
