Central police commander Laimo Asi says that the Chinese man pictured wearing police uniform and serving customers at his supermarket at Moreguina station, has been warned to stop impersonating police.

Tkatchenko blames visa issues on poor administration

Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko says this issue must be recognised for sports going forward.

This comes after Papua New Guinea withdrew from the second leg of the OFC Women’s Olympic Qualifier which was scheduled for today (Tuesday 26 January) due to visa issues.

The squad did not receive the required visas to enter New Zealand for the return match.

Tkatchenko said it is time now for proper procedures and processes to be put in place for sports travel.

“This will ensure that the management of sports travel is centralized through the sports ministry.

The incident is embarrassing for FIFA vice president David Chung, who leads the Papua New Guinea soccer federation and the Oceania confederation.

Papua New Guinea lost 7-1 in the first leg at home on Saturday.

New Zealand media reported that visa issues were blamed for the visiting team not travelling for the return match in Auckland.

FIFA did not give a reason Monday when confirming in a statement that the playoff second leg was cancelled.

New Zealand now advances to represent Oceania at the 12-team Rio de Janeiro Olympics tournament in August.
