PNG vs Vanuatu

PNG U20 men’s team to play Vanuatu

This will be their chance to get their campaign back on track after going down to New Caledonia 4-1 on Saturday.

Coach Peter Gunemba is taking confidence from their first half effort against their game with New Caledonia on the weekend as he calls for greater concentration from his players to convert a winning position into three points if they get the opportunity.

“Perhaps in the first half of the game with New Caledonia the players were too confident and thought the game was won after scoring the first goal to lead 1-0 at break,” Gunemba said.

Vanuatu beat PNG A by 28 runs

Vanuatu batted first and set a mammoth target of 172 runs thanks to Nalin Nipoko's 40 runs. His knock included 4 fours and 3 big sixes.

Middle order batsman Andrew Mansale chipped in late in the innings with 28. Vanuatu finished at 9/172.

PNG'S Kabua Vagi Morea was the best of the bowlers taking 4/20.

In their response, PNG'S openers Chris Amini (80) and Riley Hekure (33) got things going. But their dismissals spelt the end for PNG as 6 wickets fell in close succession for 21 runs.

PNG Lewas beat Vanuatu by 55 runs

The Lewas went in to bat first, setting up a target of 139. They batted out the full 20 overs losing 8 wickets.
