PNG Sustainable Development Program Limited

PNGSDP’s agribusiness initiative

This nucleus estate joint venture will produce vanilla and black pepper in Oriomo, establish processing and storage facilities on Daru and develop an export-oriented aquaculture business.

As part of this development, SDP’s barramundi hatchery, which was initially set up in 2009 to restock the river system in the province, will be refurbished, expanded and professionally managed.

Education initiatives boosted in Western

In a statement, the SDP said education has been their important priority because of their firm belief that good schooling is the pathway to a better future.

To this end, SDP has been investing to improve school infrastructure, funding school fees and using modern technology to support teachers and students in the classroom. It is also funding the development of a Balimo campus, initially as a FODE centre with 105 enrolled students but soon to be a tertiary institution for training teachers and health workers.

First aerial health patrol

The AHP’s first flight took off from Balimo bound for Wawoi Falls, a rural community in the remote Western Province bordering Hela. This corner of the province has been particularly difficult for health officers to support because of the logistics.

Western Provincial Administrator Robert Kaiyun said: “We are excited and we are confident that this arrangement is going to help improve our health performance indicators in the province.
