Search warrants to be issued over death threats

NCD Metropolitan Police Commander Ben Turi has informed PNG Loop that search warrants will be issued to check all suspected personnel homes and properties.

Turi says that police have been investigating a group of policemen who have been linked to the death threats issued on both the Police Commissioner Gari Baki and himself.

The media were shown examples of  text messages by Turi during a recent raid that implicated an unattached officer.

More raids have been carried out while more officers have been taken in for questioning by the investigators on the case.

Public urged to report police

Assistant Commissioner Police for Traffic Jerry Frank  informed PNG Loop that people are being encouraged to take note of the time and place of the incident.

They must also note vehicle registration numbers especially at road blocks so that it will be easy to track down the police unit that is on the scene and charge them accordingly.

Frank says investigators have narrowed down the findings to the case of the police officer shown in the viral video that was recorded by a man who, the officer was trying to get money from.

Women leaders around the country and the facilitators of this movement convened the first meeting last Saturday to come up with a strategic framework for the movement.

In that meeting 5 core activities were identified for which the committee members were asked to draw up action plans and methodologies to implement them.

The core activities which the Women Arise Committee would like to partner with and collaborate more on are with issues to the citizens of the country, government roles, media, police and the churches roles in addressing women's issues.

NCD police boss to change perception

NCD Police boss was with his officers patrolling the streets of Port Moresby in their New Year operations last night.

Turi told the media that, minimising public complaint on police brutality and making the police presence felt by the city residents are is his top priority for 2016.    

“First thing is to cut down police brutality by the first quarter of the year, and will concentrate on reducing the crime rate and stolen motor vehicles in the city.

AFP officer, Brad Turner, says in his year or so in PNG he witnessed extra-judicial killings and the uncalled for destruction of a squatter settlement among other crimes.

PNG police commander Gary Baki says Mr Turner's claims are a pack of lies while the AFP management says it has no concerns.
