Team PNG To Saipan

Final endorsements of Athletes and Officials will be made when the Justification Committee meets on Tuesday 28th of February, next week.

Under the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee, the Justification Committee is the body that deliberates and endorses sports and their top athletes to participate as Team PNG in Olympic, Commonwealth and the Pacific Games. 

Sports representing Papua New Guinea in Saipan are Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Golf, Tennis, Va’a and Weightlifting.

Yore Awarded Women’s Leadership Scholarship

The CWLP scholarship offers women in sport in the Commonwealth access to cutting-edge opportunities that empowers women to become leaders within their sport and community on their development journeys to being role models and agents of change to guide the next generation of women in sport.

This program will support participants to not only clarify their leadership ambitions and recognise their leadership strengths but importantly broaden the understanding of their roles in supporting equality within the Commonwealth Sports Movement.

PNGOC Marks 60 Years

It has experienced a long and colorful history through growth, transformation and changes in its name to what it is now known.

Since 1961, the mission of the committee was to develop the PNG athletes and prepare them for when they participated for and in major international multi-sports events in the Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games.

This action aimed at embodying and promoting the values and principles of friendship, respect, non-discrimination, solidarity and universality through sport.

PNGOC, Trukai Announce Winners

The winners were announced at the PNGOC Office at Olympic Haus Boroko. Present were representatives of Trukai Industries Ltd and PNGOC to witness the occasion.

PNGOC Corporate Manager, Ian Leklek congratulated the winners and was grateful for their support with purchasing the Fun Run T-Shirts, as the proceeds go to funds raised for TEAM PNG in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Leklek thanked the winners for their support also because despite the tough economic times our country is facing people are still lending a helping hand.

Sir John to lead new-look board

This follows elections held on Saturday, June 27th, during the organisation’s Annual General Assembly held at the Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby.

As per the PNG Olympic Committee Constitution, the elections were conducted using an exhaustive ballot process supervised by the PNG Electoral Commission.

Sir John Dawanincura surpassed challenger, Ralph Tarasomo in the second round of voting, by one vote after the third candidate for the position, Karo Lelai, was eliminated in the first round.

Trukai’s involvement with the PNG Olympic Committee began in 1999 when they became one of its corporate sponsors. Trukai supports the PNG Olympic Committee through its sponsorship of the nationwide Trukai Fun Run, which raises funds to send Team PNG to the Pacific, Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

National federations engaged in dialogue

The meetings spanned a month and were chaired by the President of the PNG Olympic Committee, Sir John Dawanincura, and Secretary General, Auvita Rapilla.

The objectives of the meetings were to provide key information on the services and programs provided by PNG Olympic Committee. These include addressing governance and compliance requirements of PNG Olympic Committee and giving the opportunity for National Federations to raise issues of concern including feedback on PNG Olympic Committee’s services to them.

K500,000 for Team PNG

Trukai Industries Ltd proudly presented the cheque on Friday in Port Moresby.

93,492 t-shirts were sold from this year’s June 16th fun run – both from auctions and the t-shirt sales.

Trukai Industries says this year’s fun run was a huge success, compared to previous years’. Both the Lae and Port Moresby auctions recorded a total of 61,000 t-shirts.

PNG Olympic Haus open

The new office is at Lahara Avenue in Boroko, National Capital District, and was opened by the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, on May 9th.

Bach congratulated the PNG Olympic Community on this milestone achievement and also presented them with the certificate of recognition as a National Olympic Committee.

He said the Olympic Haus can be the home of Olympics and Olympism in PNG.
