NCD arrest statistics on par

NCD police boss Perou N'Dranou says the unit has, in the last month, produced great arrest numbers.

A challenge that was recently highlighted was the backlog of police cases that was slow to produce turn around results. N’Dranou says this is one area that he will need to tighten up his command on.

The NCD metropolitan superintendent this week issued a challenge to all units and stations under his command to improve on the area of cases and arrests being processed and made.

Police commander starts parades in city

This week he has hosted three parades for the CID, Traffic and the Boroko police.

This morning at Boroko, Met Supt Perou N'Dranou reiterated discipline and communication from the station command down to the rank and file.

He challenged the personnel gathered to tighten up on their hand over documentation such as situation reports as well as arrests statistics.

He says the station needs to improve on their overall management as well.

Erima shooting investigation progressing well: Police

The investigative case is now with ballistics team for bullet shell casings to be screened and tested.

NCD police boss, Perou N’Dranou, said to investigate any case or report, police are given three months to investigate.

“We are into the first month and we are already doing well on it,” N’Dranou stated.

The chief investigator in his briefs states that investigations have completed the initial stage – the scene of crime management.

The five bullet shells were with forensics and will now go to ballistics to be tested.

Police managing disciplinary issues: Tamari

Superintendent Operations-Administration, Chris Tamari, said police is managing issues involving police brutality.

“The only deterrent means is to deal with them head on.”

He said the command will come down hard on these officers.

According to the NDC metropolitan superintendent, Perou N’Dranou, seven officers were summoned to his office over claims of brutality earlier this week.

“Seven of them will be charged,” he said.

He adds that over the past weekend, he suspended two police officers as well.

Police to bring in sorcery case suspects

NCD Taskforce Commander, Mark Mosinakave, says they have a witness willing to go on record and will move forward to apprehend suspects as soon as they verify all information given in.

Mosinakave says his unit will be moving in to bring in the suspects and hold them on attempted murder charges.

Meantime, NCD metropolitan police commander, Perou N'Dranou, has condemned the attack and said that such practices have no place in the city.

"These people are just ignorant bullies preying on the weak," says N’Dranou.

Quality over quantity

NCD metropolitan police commander, Perou N'Dranou, outlined this when holding a parade with the Task Force unit.

N'Dranou said the initial set up of the unit was to act as a response squad for high risk cases.

He explained that the unit will have seven squads. Four on shift, two for foreign embassy call outs and one on standby.

The parade today was to reemphasise the unit tasking and standing in the metropolitan command as well as cut down 12 more personnel who have fallen behind in training requirements.

Homicide cases still under investigation

These cases include the body of the young man found dead at the Treasury building, the shooting of the former BDA Chairman, Fred Konga as well the case of veteran journalist, Rosalyn Albaniel Evara.

Officer in Charge for Homicide, John Daviaga said the cases haven’t had any new development yet therefore; CID hasn’t had the opportunity to arrest anyone as yet either.

He said the division is hoping to get some leads on the cases and arrest suspects.

NCD Met Supt wraps up festive operations

In a media debriefing this morning, the NCD Metropolitan police commander, Perou N’Dranou highlighted that the operations have seen much improvement in the way people have behaved.

The Met Supt reiterated that the community should be commended for improving, despite reports of fatalities, drink driving, alcohol related fights, and disturbances which are common during such periods.

N’Dranou took the opportunity to challenge the community to be more proactive in the way that they dealt with law and order issues.

Police will not tolerate domestic violence: N’Dranou

Police recently confirmed cases of sexual harassment at the work place and domestic violence on female victims.

The first case took place two weeks ago on a Thursday at Harness Energy at Napanapa which saw the case being reported to the Town Police station.

NCD Police Boss, Perou N’Dranou confirmed the report with the Town police station commander who said that the suspect was formerly employed by Harness Energy but has now been terminated after the domestic violence incident.

He was arrested and later released on bail last week.

N'Dranou hands over reins to Philips

In a handover ceremony earlier today at the Bomana Training College, now former training commandant, Perou N'Dranou, was given the honour to inspect the parade for the last time.

The parade did a slow march pass past the outgoing as well as the incoming commandants, witnessed by senior police officials of the police hierarchy as well as family members.

The handover-takeover comes after the call by the commissioner for police for changes in some of the senior positions in the Royal PNG Constabulary hierarchy.
