PNC denies extending invitation to MPs

In denying suggestions from the National Alliance party, PNC said: “The people of the country made their will clear when the People's National Congress was returned by a large margin to continue our work of providing free education, better health outcomes and a stronger economy that serves us all.

“We are happy to work with mature leaders willing to put their differences aside for the good of the country.

“The National Alliance party have not proven themselves to be that.”

Alotau, Kokopo camps to arrive in POM

In less than 24 hours, the elected MPs of the 10th Parliament will vote for the country’s new Prime Minister.

The People’s National Congress Party-led coalition is expected to arrive on a chartered flight in the nation’s capital around midday.

On the other hand, the Kokopo camp, led by National Alliance and PANGU Party, are tight-lipped about their estimated time of arrival because of incidences of abduction and assaults on the Alliance members.

However, a declared MP confirmed with Loop PNG that they will be arriving today.

Kua disgusted with ‘kidnap’ incident

Kua, in a statement, has expressed disgust at reports of the use of police personnel to carry out the work of PNC Party to form government.

"While numbers are steadily increasing on team Alliance, the flow of members elect appears to have dried up at (outgoing Prime Minister Peter) O'Neill's Alotau camp.

“PNG continues to reject PNC and return more and more Alliance members. It is becoming clear that O'Neill is not beyond unethical conduct."

O’Neill: Arore's actions not PNC-endorsed

Outgoing Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said this in a press conference at Government House yesterday afternoon, after he was asked to comment on an incident at the Tropicair terminal involving the former MP.

He was asked if the PNC condoned violence and approved of the use of armed policemen to force newly declared politicians to join their camp.

PNC invited to form government

PNC secured the highest number of elected members this election; 15 of them are at the Alotau camp.  It is understood they have 24 elected MPs.

Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato, at the return of writs to the Governor-General at 4pm today, advised Sir Bob to invite PNC to form government.

Parliament will sit next week to elect a speaker and eventually, a prime minister.

President of PNC party, Joseph Kup, was present at Government House today at the presentation of the writs.

ENB members-elect join PNC camp

The ENB team included Kokopo MP Emil Tammur, Pomio MP Elias Kapavore and Governor Nakikus Konga.

They arrived this afternoon from a chartered plane from Port Moresby.

Also on the plane was WNB Governor Sasindran Muthuvel, Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru and Sir Puka Temu.

More MPs are expected to join the camp this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.

PNC rally disrupted in Hela

The rally was led by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his PNC Hela candidates, with the incumbent member for Tari-Pori and Finance Minister James Marape.

Reports on the ground say the Prime Minister was quickly whisked to safety when the crowd started throwing stones at each other, forcing the police to fire teargas.

The Hela Provincial Police Commander, Michael Welly, has confirmed the reports.

However, the PM’s officials say it is a minor incident between supporters of rival candidates.

This is the third reported disruption from the public at PNC rallies.
