Basil’s move strengthens Alliance: Pruaitch

Opposition Leader, Patrick Pruaitch in a statement said Basil’s decision surprised leaders within the Alliance although the public received early warning through media reports that a crossover was about to happen.

“A formal announcement was delayed allowing for negotiations on the ‘30 pieces of silver’ needed to entice 12 Pangu Pati members across to Government, rather than the initial nine or 10 MPs,” he said.

Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, currently has 73 MPs in the ruling coalition, giving him the ability to dominate Parliament and to bulldoze through any legislation.

Pruaitch on PANGU members’ alleged move

He stated there are no lines drawn against politicians moving sides in the parliament. However, if and when this move is confirmed, there is nothing the Opposition can do and their decision will be taken with grace.

The Opposition leader was also queried on how the move will affect the opposition if and when it actually occurs. He stated that they will operate as the Opposition and this move, if it happens, will not deter them from their goals.

Pruaitch announces shadow cabinet

The Opposition Leader, Patrick Pruaitch, said the shadow cabinet will not be unnecessarily obstructive, but will support the government to uphold leadership conduct and proposed laws and policies.

“I wish to remind the government that political leadership in our country is not an end in itself but a means to an end.

As far as parties and leaders in the Opposition are concerned, the end is the welfare, prosperity and the common good of every citizen – every girl, every woman, every boy and every man – of this nation.

VIDEO: Pruaitch questions 100 day plan

In a public statement, Pruaitch said the plan is bound to fail because it's first important rule to have a 'Small, efficient government' was broken when the Prime Minister announced 9 vice ministers to support his 33-men cabinet.
Pruaitch is also convinced Minister Abel will not be able to reduce the 2017 budget deficit GDP ratio when the Final Budget outcome is released next year.
He says nothing suggests in the 100-day plan of any attempt to reduce any public-sector costs, and the government may be forced to squeeze government agencies for more funds.

Opposition calls on Baki to resign

Opposition leader, Patrick Pruaitch expressed his outmost disgust in a media conference at the lack of immediate action by the Commissioner for Police in regards to the warrant of arrest issued for the Prime Minister.

“We have seen a deliberate delay tactic by the Commissioner for Police and clearly a conflict of interest demonstrated.”

Pruaitch said himself including the members of the opposition have demanded that the Police Commissioner either steps aside or delegate the role of inviting the Prime Minister to have a conversation regarding the matter at hand.
