Arrest after Paris soldiers hit by car

A bullet-holed BMW could be seen where police brought it to a halt.

Earlier, six soldiers were wounded after a car was driven at them near their base in Levallois-Perret.

The Paris prosecutor described the attack as "attempted killings... in relation to a terrorist undertaking".

Reports say one policeman was injured during the arrest operation on the A16 motorway at the town of Marquise near the port of Boulogne.

The BMW is said to have hit at least one other vehicle during the chase and the police opened fire several times. The suspect is in his 30s.

"These first statements, which should be taken cautiously, leave a whole series of issues that Salah Abdeslam must explain," he added.

Abdeslam has been formally charged in connection with the November massacre, but will oppose his transfer to France, his lawyer said earlier.

However, defence lawyer Sven Mary told reporters at federal police headquarters in Brussels that Abdeslam "will refuse his extradition at this stage".

"He is cooperating with Belgian justice," he said.

Polye’s call comes in the wake of terrorist attacks at the weekend in Paris, France.

Despite security fears following the attack, Mr Polye said PNG had confidence in Paris hosting the international football tournament Euro 2016, citing France being one of the countries which has top security systems.

“We are part of the global community so name calling or alleging its association with each of them would demean our status at the diplomatic front,” said Mr Polye.
