Online safety campaign in schools

Phase 3 of the program builds on previous work to promote internet safety with tools and resources for parents, educators, and youth directly through offline awareness campaigns that will be conducted in schools across the country.

The campaign aims to support young people who don’t access to the internet as yet, before they go online.

For the first time, the program’s resources will now include information and advice on avoiding scams and identifying and combating misinformation.

Safer Internet Day Observed

Starting as an initiative of the European Union (EU) Safe Borders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in approximately 200 countries and territories worldwide, including PNG.

Safer Internet Day (SID) is organized jointly with the Insafe/INHOPE network, with the support of the European Commission.

Online safety: Internet 'not designed for children'

Anne Longfield said children did not know how their data was being used due to "impenetrable" terms and conditions.

She said the internet was not designed for children even though they are now the biggest users.

She has called for a digital ombudsman to be created to uphold their rights.
